Taking Over The Blogging World

Creating your Tumblr Community

The great thing about Tumblr is that it’s a mix between a blogging platform and social media. Tumblr makes it so easy to follow other bloggers, like and share their content and interact with other bloggers.

To we’re going to get started in building our blogging community – that is, who we follow and how to like and share posts. We’re going to get started by following some other bloggers. To find bloggers that might interest you, use the search function in the top left hand corner. I always search by tags, for example #sydney will bring up bloggers and posts that have used that tag before. Let’s give it a whirl…

First your shown bloggers relevant to the tag #sydney and beneath that are posts from various bloggers that have used the tag. You can simply click ‘follow’ or, if you want to see more of the bloggers posts, click on their username to view their previous posts.

We’ll use the user nickmiller as an example. If I hover over the username I can see previous photos they’ve posted and again, I’m given the option to follow them. If I click on the username I’m shown his bio and previous posts. After liking what I’ve seen I’ve decided to follow the blogger nickmiller.

Being an avid surfer I’m going to search for the tag #surfing… I like those results. I’m going to follow all of the recommended bloggers and I’ll scroll through some of the posts to see if anything stands out.

To see who you’re following simply click on the person icon on the top right of your screen and then ‘following’. Right, my challenge to you is to now go and collect at least 20 bloggers to follow. Search for tags that interest you like #cooking, #shopping, #fitness, #travel <- this list is endless. Build up your community and get inspired.

Now that you’ve built a mini community, head back to your dashboard and read some of the posts from the bloggers you’re following now. Click on the heart icon on the bottom left of each post if you like what you read. Let that blogger know you liked it!

I hope you’re finding my blog posts helpful and relevant. Please let me know in the comments if there is something specific you want me to cover right away.

In my next blog post, we’ll do some more Tumblr posting, sharing links and sharing other’s posts.

Stay tuned.

Ciao, Josh.
